The Challenge

Hanz de Fuko needed to migrate their ecommerce platform to Shopify Plus to modernize their online store, improve user experience, and enable better backend management. Key challenges included data migration from their existing platform, ensuring minimal SEO disruption during the migration, and customizing the Shopify theme to align with Hanz de Fuko’s unique brand identity.

Additionally, they wanted a smooth and efficient process for the setup of their Shopify store, including optimizing user interface (UI) elements to provide an easy-to-navigate shopping experience.

What We Did

Our scope of work for Hanz de Fuko included the following key services:

Data Migration

We managed the migration of the existing content, including product listings, collections structure, and historical backend data, from Hanz de Fuko’s previous platform to Shopify Plus. This required careful planning to ensure that all data was accurately transferred without affecting data integrity. We also migrated all website content, ensuring consistency in branding and messaging across the new site.

301 Redirects for SEO Preservation

To maintain the brand’s SEO rankings during the migration, we implemented a detailed 301 redirect strategy. This included a comprehensive analysis of the existing URL link structure and mapping out redirects to mitigate any potential loss of organic traffic. Tools like Google Webmaster Tools, SEO Powersuite, and the Shopify app 'Transportr' were used to ensure a seamless transition.

Theme Selection and Customization

We worked closely with Hanz de Fuko to select a suitable Shopify theme that could be customized to fit their brand aesthetics. The theme was configured to include features like a dropdown mega-menu, direct add-to-cart functionality from the collections page, and an AJAX pop-out cart. Our customizations focused on creating a clean, easy-to-navigate user experience while staying within budget constraints.

Shopify Store Setup

We set up the Shopify store, including product tagging for SEO, filtering, and site organization. We uploaded the product listings and configured the checkout process, ensuring all payment methods, such as PayPal and Apple Pay, were integrated seamlessly. The store setup also included connecting with common carriers like UPS, USPS, and FedEx for real-time shipping estimates, along with setting up promotional codes and automated tax calculations.

UI Customization and Design

We provided customization of the user interface, including taking screen grabs of the pages to make static mock-ups for review before any code implementation. This allowed Hanz de Fuko to visualize the changes and provide feedback in a cost-effective manner. The final customization included making necessary tweaks to the theme’s pages to align with the mock-ups and ensuring a responsive design across all devices.

App Installation and Integrations

We integrated various Shopify apps, including email marketing tools (MailChimp/Klaviyo), basic Google Analytics for ecommerce tracking, and Shopify Reviews for customer testimonials. These integrations were aimed at enhancing customer engagement and providing data insights to drive informed business decisions.
