The Challenge

BattlBox faced the challenge of migrating their ecommerce platform from Cratejoy to Shopify Plus. This migration involved complex subscription data for thousands of active subscribers and required maintaining SEO performance, site usability, and customer satisfaction throughout the transition.

Additionally, BattlBox needed to implement a customized Recharge integration to manage subscriptions seamlessly and create a user-friendly dashboard for subscribers. The goal was to enhance the customer experience, streamline the subscription management process, and minimize downtime and disruptions.

What We Did

Our scope of work for BattlBox included the following key services:

Migration from Cratejoy to Shopify Plus

We managed the migration of content, product listings, customer accounts, and historical data from Cratejoy to Shopify Plus. The migration required coordination with the BattlBox team to ensure minimal downtime, considering Cratejoy’s increasingly restrictive policies on data export. To address this, we planned for scheduled downtime and manual data tracking during the transition to maintain data accuracy.

301 Redirect Implementation & SEO Maintenance

To preserve SEO rankings, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the existing URL structure and implemented 301 redirects. This ensured that all important URLs were properly redirected, mitigating the risk of losing organic traffic during the migration. We used tools like Google Webmaster Tools and SEO Powersuite to ensure SEO performance remained stable.

Recharge Integration & Custom Dashboard Development

Recharge was integrated into the Shopify Plus platform to manage BattlBox’s subscription services. This involved a deep integration with Recharge’s API to give customers full control over their subscriptions, including billing, shipping, and customization options, all from a custom-designed “My Account” page. This custom dashboard mirrored BattlBox’s branding and was developed to make subscription management as intuitive as possible for users.

Support for Related Brands

In addition to the work for BattlBox, we provided ongoing support for several other brands related to BattlBox. This included integration work, Shopify Plus customizations, and subscription management support, ensuring a consistent and reliable user experience across all associated brands.

UI/UX Enhancements & Site Speed Improvements

We retained the familiar look and feel of the original BattlBox site while addressing minor UI issues and enhancing site speed. We focused on improving site load times by minifying JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, enabling compression, and eliminating render-blocking resources. These improvements helped boost the overall performance and usability of the website.

Quality Assurance & Mobile Responsiveness

Extensive quality assurance was conducted across all major browsers and mobile devices to ensure a smooth user experience. Our QA process included both developer testing and a dedicated QA team review. We also conducted pre-launch previews with the BattlBox team to gather feedback and ensure all elements met their requirements before going live.

BattlBox’s subscription platform is now more flexible and scalable than ever, allowing the brand to grow without losing focus on what matters most: the customer experience.

We had made the decision to migrate our site over to Shopify Plus and heard from a few people that PowerCommerce was the best for this. We spoke with them and two other potential vendors for this, and pretty quickly we had realized internally that PowerCommerce really took a consultative approach. The questions they asked us uncovered potential roadblocks we had not thought of (and the other vendors had not mentioned or thought of either). Fast forward over a year later, and our relationship with PowerCommerce is incredibly strong! After the migration, we came to the conclusion that they were the perfect partner for us for design and development. We have done countless projects with them for BattlBox and also utilized them for several projects outside of BattlBox. We were able to really customize our site while also creating an awesome customer experience, and we are currently working with them on some projects to push this initiative even further! They were even able to create an Android / iOS app for us that we plan on launching this month. Quick response times, amazing customer service, and a working relationship that really feels like we are all on the same team. PowerCommerce is amazing, and I don’t use that word lightly. Highly recommend them to everyone!

We are exploring additional features for the Recharge dashboard, including more flexible billing options, gifting capabilities, and personalized subscription boxes to further engage customers.

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)

We are focusing on ongoing CRO efforts, including A/B testing key landing pages and optimizing the checkout flow to maximize conversions and reduce cart abandonment.

Support for Expansion

We are assisting BattlBox in expanding their offerings across their related brands, providing development support for new site features and ensuring consistency across all brands in the network.
