The Challenge

Yale Lock needed to migrate their ecommerce platform from Kentico ASP.NET to Shopify Plus to enhance user experience, improve operational efficiency, and optimize the digital storefront. This migration included the challenge of managing extensive product data, historical customer and order data, and promotional content, while maintaining the SEO integrity of the existing site.

Additionally, Yale required a custom-designed theme, mobile-responsive development, and the integration of advanced pricing tiers to cater to different customer groups such as employees, builders, and locksmiths.

What We Did

Our scope of work for Yale Lock included the following key services:

Data and Content Migration

We managed the migration of all content, product listings, and back-end data from Kentico ASP.NET to Shopify Plus. This included approximately 1,000 SKUs, over 3,500 customer accounts, and 35,000 past orders. We ensured that promotional data, such as active promo codes and customer reviews, was also migrated effectively. Our team coordinated closely with Yale to ensure the accuracy of all transferred data and minimize disruption during the transition.

SEO Maintenance and 301 Redirects

To preserve SEO rankings during the migration, we conducted an initial SEO audit, followed by detailed mapping and implementation of 301 redirects. We used tools such as Google Webmaster Tools, SEO Powersuite, and Shopify apps like Transportr to analyze and implement the redirects, ensuring that all key pages retained their search engine visibility. Additionally, we submitted a new sitemap post-launch and monitored organic traffic for two months to ensure the migration’s SEO success.

Custom Theme Development

We designed and developed a custom theme for Yale Lock’s Shopify Plus store. This involved delivering static mockups for desktop and mobile versions of key pages, such as the homepage, product page templates, and account pages. Our team collaborated with Yale to refine these designs through multiple revision rounds, ensuring the final theme reflected Yale’s brand identity and provided a seamless user experience.

Advanced Pricing Tiers

To cater to Yale’s diverse customer base, we developed advanced pricing tiers for different account types, including employees, builders, and locksmiths. Each customer group received specific discounts, managed through a combination of customer flags and Shopify scripts, allowing Yale to manage pricing models with ease. This feature ensured that customers saw the correct pricing based on their account type, improving the customer experience and streamlining the purchasing process.

Integration of External Systems

We integrated external systems, such as Salsify for Product Information Management (PIM) and CardinalCommerce for credit authentication. This included integrating Yale’s JDE Oracle ERP system with Shopify using a SOAP-based API, which allowed for seamless backend data synchronization. These integrations helped Yale maintain accurate product information, process orders efficiently, and provide a secure shopping experience for their customers.

Store Setup and Quality Assurance

We handled the Shopify store setup, including setting up the checkout procedure, payment gateways, tax calculations, and shipping options. We also integrated tracking codes for analytics and social media to enhance marketing efforts. Our quality assurance process involved extensive mobile responsiveness testing and cross-browser compatibility checks, ensuring that all users could access the site seamlessly regardless of their device or browser.
