The Challenge

Repairs Universe needed to migrate their existing ecommerce platform to Shopify Plus to modernize their online store and enhance the overall shopping experience. Their previous platform was outdated and required significant manual intervention to manage content, product listings, and back-end data.

The migration presented several challenges: moving a large volume of product data, maintaining SEO integrity through 301 redirects, integrating functionality for cross-sell and product add-ons, and delivering a custom design that met their branding and operational needs.

What We Did

Our scope of work for Repairs Universe included the following key services:

Data Migration

We managed the migration of all product listings, content, repair guides, and historical back-end data from the old platform to Shopify Plus. This was a highly manual process due to the nature of the previous platform, which involved moving product pages, repair guides, and associated images and videos without automated software assistance. We also migrated the existing category and subcategory structure to Shopify’s collections and sub-collections, ensuring a smooth and consistent customer experience.

Custom Store Design

Our talented design team worked closely with Repairs Universe to develop a new custom theme for Shopify Plus that aligned with their brand identity. We provided design mockups for key pages such as the homepage, product detail pages (PDPs), repair guide pages, and content-based pages like About Us and FAQ. The custom design included features like cross-sell and add-on functionality, which were built using product tagging in the Shopify backend.

SEO Maintenance and 301 Redirects

To preserve SEO rankings during the migration, we conducted a detailed analysis and mapping of the existing URL structure and implemented 301 redirects. Tools like Google Webmaster Tools, SEO Powersuite, and Shopify’s Transportr app were used to manage the redirects, ensuring that Repairs Universe’s SEO performance remained intact post-migration.

Development on Shopify Platform

We developed all key pages using Shopify’s Liquid templating language, ensuring mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility across all major browsers and screen sizes. Our development work also included integrating features for cross-selling and product add-ons on product pages, replicating the functionality Repairs Universe had on their old platform.

Store Setup and Functionality

We set up the Shopify store’s checkout process, integrated the main payment gateway, and connected the store with common carriers for real-time shipping estimates. Our team also set up promotional codes, automated tax calculations, and integrated additional apps such as Google Analytics and MailChimp for email marketing.

Quality Assurance and Soft Launch

After development, we conducted extensive quality assurance testing, including test orders, mobile responsiveness checks, and cross-browser testing. The Repairs Universe team was given a preview of the site to provide feedback before launch. We executed a strategically scheduled soft launch, followed by a 60-day complimentary bug-fixing window to address any issues resulting from the migration.
