The Challenge
Scout Alarm needed to migrate their existing website from its current CMS to Shopify Plus, a move aimed at enhancing user experience, streamlining content management, and improving the overall look and feel of their website. The migration involved transferring extensive product content and blog articles while maintaining SEO performance and implementing new page designs to modernize the website.
Additionally, Scout Alarm sought a customized theme that could accommodate their specific design requirements and be mobile responsive to meet the needs of their on-the-go users.

What We Did
Our scope of work for Scout Alarm included the following key services:
Website Content Migration
We managed the migration of Scout Alarm’s content from their current CMS to Shopify Plus, including extensive product listings, customer information, and historical order data. Blog articles hosted on Contentful CMS were also migrated seamlessly to Shopify to ensure continuity. Special care was taken to retain important support and investor resources on the Contentful CMS platform while moving all customer-facing elements to Shopify, providing a balance between flexibility and stability.
Custom Theme Development on Shopify Plus
We developed a custom Shopify theme using HTML, CSS, and Shopify’s Liquid templating engine, based on static mockups created during the design phase. Our focus was on creating a modern, user-friendly interface that reflected Scout Alarm’s brand identity. The development included custom page templates for desktop and mobile views of key pages, such as the homepage, product detail pages, and 'How It Works' section. We ensured that all visual elements were consistent across devices, creating an engaging experience for both desktop and mobile users.
301 Redirects and SEO Maintenance
Preserving Scout Alarm’s SEO performance was a key objective during the migration. We performed a detailed analysis of their current URL structure and implemented 301 redirects to ensure that all essential pages were mapped properly to their new URLs. Tools like Google Webmaster Tools, SEO Powersuite, and Shopify apps like Transportr were used to support the redirect process and mitigate SEO degradation. A new sitemap was submitted to ensure search engines could index the updated content efficiently.
Responsive Design and Quality Assurance
We developed mobile-specific mockups for core pages to ensure that the website provided an excellent browsing experience on mobile devices. Extensive testing was conducted across popular browsers and mobile device screen sizes to guarantee compatibility. After development, a dedicated QA team carried out a detailed quality assurance process, which included cross-browser testing and placing test orders to validate the functionality of key features.
Flexible Fund Hours for Unexpected Requirements
In addition to the initial What We Did, we included a pool of flexible hours that could be used for unforeseen complications, overage, or additional feature requests during the build. This allowed Scout Alarm to adapt their requirements without disrupting the overall timeline or budget, ensuring the project was able to evolve alongside the company’s needs.
