The Challenge
Little Poppy Co. needed to migrate from Cratejoy to Shopify Plus to enhance the functionality of their ecommerce store, streamline backend processes, and create a more seamless customer experience. This migration involved several key challenges, including transferring extensive subscriber data, product listings, and content from multiple platforms.
Additionally, Little Poppy Co. required a custom Shopify theme that mirrored their existing brand aesthetic while also improving the subscription management functionality to provide more transparency and control to their customers.

What We Did
Our scope of work for Little Poppy Co. included the following key services:

Data and Content Migration
We managed the migration of all content from Cratejoy to Shopify Plus, including product listings, content pages, and subscriber data. This included pulling over blog content from Squarespace, as well as integrating products from the exclusive Shopify subdomain into the new website. We worked closely with Little Poppy Co.'s team to ensure data accuracy, leveraging migration tools where possible and resolving any issues that required manual intervention.

Subscription Data Migration
Migrating subscription data was one of the most complex aspects of this project. We exported all active subscriber data, including subscription and purchase history, and collaborated with the Recharge team to upload customer details into their system and Shopify. While tokenized payment data was migrated for current subscribers, customers were required to re-enter their payment information due to platform constraints. We created a flow for PayPal subscribers to manage their subscriptions until they chose to transition to Shopify, ensuring minimal disruption to the customer experience.

301 Redirects and SEO Maintenance
To preserve SEO rankings during the migration, we conducted an SEO audit and implemented 301 redirects to maintain the integrity of existing links. Tools like Google Webmaster Tools, SEO Powersuite, and Shopify’s Transportr app were used to map and manage the redirects, and an updated sitemap was submitted to facilitate search engine indexing post-launch.
Custom Theme Development
We recreated the page designs of Little Poppy Co.'s existing website on Shopify Plus, coding out the HTML and CSS for each page using Shopify’s Liquid templating engine. This custom theme maintained the brand’s aesthetic while incorporating mobile responsiveness and enhanced functionality. We also developed page templates for frequently recurring pages, like product and collection pages, to ensure design consistency across the website.
Advanced Recharge Integration
To improve the subscription management experience, we implemented a deep integration with Recharge, allowing customers to manage their subscriptions directly from the Shopify My Account page. This included functionalities like changing subscription quantities and styles (e.g., headbands or clips). We also created a custom login page to make the customer transition experience more seamless, allowing migrated customers to activate their new accounts with minimal friction.
Gifting and Exclusive Purchasing Options
We recreated Little Poppy Co.'s existing gifting flow to allow customers with unclaimed gifts to continue claiming them on the new platform. Additionally, we set up exclusive purchasing options for active subscribers, which allowed them to access member-only items available through an exclusive shop page.
